What to Drink

Best Portuguese wines of 2021

Sip on the finesse of these gold medalist wines from the London Wine Competition.

When most people think of Portuguese wines, the first thing that comes to mind is a fortified wine like Porto. However, Portuguese wines have been making strides in the non-fortified, or table wines arena and these are much more substantial and varied in nature. With more than 250 varieties of grapes found in the country, there is much to explore. Judges from the London Wine Competition tasted their way through the many entries from Portugal and found these to be the clear winners.

Awarding the finest wines from around the world, the London Wine Competition has been recognizing top-quality wines from diverse regions for four years. These wines have been blind-tasted and judged by some of the UK's most celebrated Sommeliers, Master Sommeliers, wine buyers, and industry experts. Highlighted for their exceptional quality, value for money, and packaging, the winners are a sure bet in your list of the best wines, whether to sip at a bar or home.

In addition to the traditional gold, silver, and bronze medals, the London Wine Competition highlights winning wines in special category awards such as Wine of the Year, Winery of the Year, Best in Show Wine (By Country), Best Wine by Varietal, and more.
